Biography

Dobrotin Sergey Svyatoslavovich was born on May 24, 1932 in the city of Gorky of the USSR in a family of doctors. In 1950, after graduating from the school, he entered the medical faculty of the Gorky Medical Institute , which he graduated with honors in 1956. For two years, he worked as a surgeon at first in the city hospital in Bor, Gorky Region, then in hospital No. 30 of Gorky . In September 1958, he entered the postgraduate course at the Department of Hospital Surgery of the Gorky Medical Institute, led by Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences B.A. Korolev . He graduated from the graduate school in 1961, defending a dissertation on the topic "Turning the heart out of blood circulation under conditions of moderate hypothermia in the experiment" [1] . The work was one of the first scientific works in the country devoted to the method of surgery on a “dry” heart with a number of congenital heart defects .

In the years 1962-1963. He was on a business trip in Nepal , where he headed the surgical department, performing complex operations with gallstone disease , giant goiter , elephantiasis of the scrotum and other diseases.

Returning to the USSR, since 1964, he began to deal with the problems of surgical treatment of acquired heart defects at Clinical Hospital No. 5, independently performed more than 2,000 mitral commissurotomy surgeries for mitral stenosis and its relapse with a personal hospital mortality rate of 2%. He took an active part in improving operations, preventing and treating postoperative complications.

Since 1970, S.S.Dobrotin began to develop the problem of surgical treatment of acquired heart defects in conditions of cardiopulmonary bypass . For the first time in the city of Gorky, he performed reconstructive, valve-preserving operations on heart valves , prosthetics of heart valves in acute infectious endocarditis . In 1984, in Moscow, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Surgical treatment of isolated mitral valve disease in conditions of cardiopulmonary bypass" [1] . In 1990, S.S.Dobrotin was awarded the academic title of professor .

Scientific Contribution

Having been engaged in cardiac surgery for more than 50 years, S.S.Dobrotin personally performed more than 3.5 thousand heart operations, including more than 1.5 thousand in cardiopulmonary bypass. S.S.Dobrotin for the first time in Nizhny Novgorod made a successful coronary artery bypass grafting operation .

For two years he was the supervisor of the Department of Surgery for Acquired Heart Diseases at the Regional Cardiac Surgery Center, from 1989 to 1997 he was the deputy chief physician for surgery.

SS Dobrotin for the first time in Russia began to perform prosthetics of the heart valve with new modern double-leaf prostheses MedInzh. The author of more than 200 scientific papers. Under his leadership, 2 doctoral and 5 master's theses were defended.

For a significant contribution to the development of methods of open heart surgery in 2005, he was included in the encyclopedia “The Best People of Russia” [2] .
