Biography
The son of a laborer. Received primary education (3 classes), then engaged in self-education. Early engaged in party activities: a member of the Polish Peasant Party “Liberation” (since 1918), the Independent Peasant Party (1925–1927), the United Left Party of the single-handed peasants “Self-Help” (1927–1931), the peasant movement “Will of the People” (1944), the Peasant Party (since 1945), the United Peasant Party (since 1949). He was arrested in bourgeois Poland, his works were forbidden by censorship. He was also a member of the Communist Party of Poland (since 1928) and the Polish Workers Party (since 1942). Since 1949 - member of the Central Executive Committee of the United Peasant Party, in 1949-1956. - its chairman.
During the First World War, he served in the Russian army, in the Polish legion called the “Pulawski”. A member of the underground movement during World War II, he was part of the conspiratorial anti-fascist groups “Proletariat” and “Will of the People”, and took part in the creation of the Kraiova Rada Narodova. In December 1943, he was one of the founders of the National Council, 1944-1945. - Member of the Presidium of the National Council, in 1945 its vice-president. In 1945-1947 - Minister of Culture and Art, in 1947-1952. - Marshal of the Sejm of Poland, in 1947-1956. - Member of the Council of State.
Actively engaged in literary creativity. His first essays, short stories and poems were published in the weekly “Peasant Self-Help”, which he edited from 1928 to 1931. In 1933, H. Bogushevskaya and E. Kornatsky became one of the founders of the literary group "Suburb". His debut story "The Riot in the Old Lank" ("Bunt w Starym Łęku") was written in 1931 and published in 1933 in Moscow.
In 1946-1947 He was the editor of the organ of the United Peasant Party of the newspaper "Green Flag".
He committed suicide.
