History

The canton was formed as a result of the reform of 2015 [1] . It included the abolished canton of Boulogne-sur-Mer-Sud , the commune of Le Portel and the southern half of the city of Boulogne-sur-Mer .

Canton Composition

The canton includes the communes (population according to the National Institute of Statistics for 2014 ):

  • Benkten (1,300 people)
  • Boulogne-sur-Mer (18 541 people) (southern half)
  • Le Portel (9,445 people)
  • Saint-Martin-Boulogne (11 391 people)
  • Eshengan (376 people)

Policy

In the 2017 presidential election, the canton residents cast in the 1st round of Marine Le Pen 28.7% of the vote against 21.6% of Jean-Luc Melanson , 21.0% of Emmanuel Macron and 14.1% of Francois Fillon ; in the 2nd round, Macron won the canton, receiving 53.2% of the vote. (2012 1st round: Francois Hollande - 33.3%, Marine Le Pen - 22.4%, Nicolas Sarkozy - 21.8%; 2nd round: Hollande - 59.4%).

Since 2015, the canton has been represented on the Council of the Department of Pas de Calais by the Vice Mayor of Saint-Martin-Boulogne, Pascal Lebon, and the Vice-Mayor of Boulogne-sur-Mer, Jean-Claude Étienne (both - Socialist Party ).
