The Mine Division [1] is a tactical formation of warships that existed in the navy of the Russian Empire and the RKKF [2] .
The formation consisted mainly of destroyers of the destroyers , intended for delivering torpedo attacks on large surface ships, repelling enemy torpedo attacks, performing active mine settings and solving other tasks [2] . The division could also include other types of ships and transport ships, depending on the tasks. A squadron built by naval canons should include a mine division [3]

In the Russian and Soviet fleets
In the Russian Imperial Navy, the first mine divisions were created in the Baltic and Black Sea fleets following the example of the Japanese fleet from experience gained during the Russo-Japanese War [4] . The mine division, as a rule, consisted of two to five battalions (the division consisted of 8–9 torpedo boats) destroyers and / or torpedo boats. The division could also include other types of ships - light cruisers, submarines, auxiliary vessels. The command of the mine division was entrusted to a special commander who raised his flag on one of the ships included in the division. Subordination in the division was simple: the commander of the ship carried out the orders of the head of the division, which in turn carried out the orders of the head of the division. The division headquarters consisted of two or three flag officers , two flagship mine officers, one artillery officer, navigator, mechanical engineer, shipbuilder, doctor and auditor, and the required number of signalmen, telegraph operators and clerks [ 3] .
On the Baltic Fleet in 1908, the 1st Mine Division consisting of 37 destroyers and the 2nd Mine Division consisting of 10 destroyers and 16 destroyers were formed. In 1916, during the First World War, both of these divisions were merged into one. In 1922, the mine division of the Baltic Fleet was disbanded. In the Black Sea Fleet, a mine division consisting of 1 cruiser, 17 destroyers and destroyers and 4 submarines was formed in 1911. In 1914, it was reformed into a mine crew. In 1920-1921, a mine division consisting of 10 destroyers and 5 destroyers existed in the Volga-Caspian military flotilla , then it was reorganized into a separate division of destroyers of the Naval Forces of the Caspian Sea [4] .
In the 1940s, in the Navy of the Armed Forces of the USSR , divisions of destroyers were created as units of the light forces of the fleet [4] .
