Musselius, Robert Vasilievich

Robert Vasilievich Musselius (1826–1889) was a Russian military leader and engineer, lieutenant-general of naval artillery, a teacher and a scientific writer.

At the end of the conductor's companies, the naval crew and the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy were appointed to the guards crew . From 1856 he taught artillery and mathematics in the engineering and artillery school of the naval department in Kronstadt , and then in the officer classes of the Marine Corps and the artillery school in St. Petersburg. He was a member of the Marine Scientific Committee, the Commission of Marine Artillery Experiments, the Artillery Department of the Marine Technical Committee and the Committee for the early introduction of rifled guns and armored ships in Russia, and also since 1865 Assistant Head of the Obukhov Steel Plant , where he improved the technical aspect of the production process. Repeatedly traveled abroad to inspect the gun and other factories.

He wrote scientific papers and critical articles on issues of naval artillery, ballistics , determining distances at sea, making new tools, shells, and gunpowder , and also translated foreign works on this topic. Most of them were published in the Maritime Collection and other journals from 1858 to 1877. He wrote a number of articles on questions about rifled guns and armored vessels; his designs and drawings were highly appreciated in scientific and technical terms.
