Biography
After graduating from the First Moscow Cadet Corps , he served in artillery in officer ranks. Then he held the post of head of the Vilnius Telegraph Station, chairman of the censorship committee in Warsaw [3] [4] , worked in the constituent committee for the arrangement of the life of peasants in the Kingdom of Poland [4] .
After retiring, he took up literary activities; during the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871) he published in Russian newspapers “correspondence from the battlefield” [3] [4] . In 1871, he founded the newspaper Novosti and until 1874 was its editor and publisher [4] .
