History

While working on his book “The Revolution,” British comedian and civic activist Russell Brand reported that he would send the income to the opening of a social enterprise that would hire people who had drug addiction [1] .

Work on the creation of a cafe began in February 2015 in the Hoxton district of London's East End [1] . The institution, called “Trew Era Cafe” (from the name of the New Era district and the Internet show of the Brand “The Trews”) [2] , was opened on March 26, about 200 people attended the ceremony [3] . All the leading British newspapers wrote about the event, including The Guardian [1] , The Daily Telegraph [4] and the London Evening Standard [5] . Speaking at the opening of the brand, he criticized political parties and said that projects like Trew Era Cafe would help change the world for the better, and that he plans to open a network of such establishments [6] . The business model used by the cafe aims at the self-sufficiency of the enterprise, rather than making a profit [1] .
