The Church of Our Lady of Tikhvin on the Berezhki is a church of the Russian Orthodox Church , built in the middle of the 17th century and demolished in the early 1960s .
The Church of Our Lady of Tikhvin on the Berezhki was founded in the 17th century, presumably in 1642 . The church was called "that on the banks" by the name of both banks, and the right and left, the Moscow River in this place. There were three more names: “what is in the Pits in Dorogomilovka”, or “what is in the Patriarchal brownie of the Berezhkovskaya Sloboda”, and “what is on the Berezhki in the Rybnaya Sloboda” [1] . Here, near the church, on the right bank of the Moskva River, there was a small patriarchal fishing settlement. A small church in the name of the Tikhvin Mother of God was a parish for fishermen and peasants, residents of this settlement [2] .
The Icon of Our Lady of Tikhvin (a version of Hodegetria) was very revered in Russia. The icon miraculously appeared in 1383 near the city of Tikhvin , according to legend, it came from Constantinople and was painted by the Evangelist Saint Apostle Luke himself .
In 1718, the church was rebuilt in stone, and its new building, small and elegant, was rebuilt in 1746 . In 1930, Moscow authorities decided to close the church. In the early 1960s, it was demolished. Currently, in its place is a small lawn in front of a residential building on the embankment of the Moscow River [2] .
