The island was mapped again in February 1821 by the First Russian Antarctic Expedition of Thaddeus Bellingshausen and was named Shishkov Island in honor of the Vice Admiral of the Russian Imperial Fleet Alexander Shishkov [2] .

The subsequent most comprehensive studies were carried out by the expedition Scotia metamorphic complex [3] .
