“Military train” - a military train led by a steam locomotive Er , installed as a monument in Volgograd at the panorama museum “Battle of Stalingrad” . The memorial complex was built in June 2009 and is dedicated to railroad workers and military builders, who provided uninterrupted supply of military cargo to the Stalingrad Front during the Battle of Stalingrad .

History
On February 3, 2008 in Volgograd, in the museum-panorama "The Battle of Stalingrad", as part of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, a meeting of the Council of Veterans-Railway Workers of the Volgograd Branch of the Volga Railway with the President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin was held . At this meeting, it was decided to create a memorial complex “Military echelon” from a steam locomotive and pre-war carriages as a monument to railway workers [1] .
In 2008, a red locomotive Er [2] was found at the Krasny Oktyabr factory, which had previously been located at the reserve base of Chir station [3] . It was subject to re-melting, but in exchange for re-melting another steam locomotive was given, which could not be restored, and this one was sent to Saratov for reconstruction, which took almost a year. After partial restoration of the given engine, the trailer was delivered to Volgograd [2] . Work on the restoration of rolling stock and its installation was carried out by employees of enterprises of the Volgograd branch of the Volga Railway [4] .
In mid-June 2009, a restored steam locomotive and four wagons were installed on a pedestal with rails at the panorama museum “Battle of Stalingrad”. The ceremonial opening of the memorial complex "Military echelon" took place on June 24, 2009 during a visit to Volgograd of the V Assembly of railway directors of Russia [5] .
In addition to the “Military train” in Volgograd there is a monument to the steam locomotive O in -5109, which is installed at the Volgograd locomotive depot [6] [7] and a monument to the steam locomotive L at the locomotive depot Maxim Gorky [8] .
Description
The “military train” is a stylized military staff, which included a steam locomotive with a tender, a covered wagon , a tank car for oil transportation and two universal platforms . In addition, a semaphore is installed in front of the train, and next to the steam locomotive cabin there is a column for refueling.
Steam
Steam locomotive E p 743-64. Designers Lopushinsky Vaclav Ivanovich and Lomonosov Yuri Vladimirovich. In the late 1930s, E-series steam locomotives were recognized as the most prepared for military transport. During World War II, steam locomotives of this series were mainly equipped with convoys of steam locomotives of the NKPS special reserve for delivering military cargo directly to the front line [9] .
The steam locomotive was built at the Lugansk Locomotive Plant in 1935 [2] , serial number 4711 [3] . During the war, it was operated on the Ryazan-Ural and Stalingrad railways [2] . During restoration, the steam engine was marked with the number E p 739-99, which was already assigned to another locomotive, therefore, after installing the steam locomotive it was renumbered as E p 743-64. In conjunction with it, a tender was set for the steam locomotive E p 743-31 [3] .
Specifications: construction speed - 65 km / h, maximum power - 1400 hp, the length of the steam engine with tender - 21.5 m, the weight of the steam engine in working condition - 85 tons, the working steam pressure in the boiler - 14 kgf / cm², heating - coal, coal supply - 15 tons, water supply - 28 m³ [10] .
Wagons
- Biaxial covered wagon. The so-called heating car was used to transport Red Army personnel to the area of the Battle of Stalingrad. During the festivities, it is opened for visitors, for this they install a stove-potbelly stove , a kerosene lamp , deck chairs, and other household items [11] [12] . Specifications: length - 7046/6444 mm, width inside - 2743 mm, height inside - 2222 mm, floor area - 17.56 m², usable volume - 39 m³. It has a steel frame, the rest of the body is wooden [13] .
- Biaxial platform. Used to transport military equipment to the Battle of Stalingrad. At different times on the platform in the form of exhibits were installed: "Katyusha" BM-13 , T-34 tank. Specifications: length - 6400 mm, width inside - 2730 mm, side / end side height - 500/300 mm [14] .
- Biaxial tank. Freight car for transportation of oil and oil products. Technical characteristics: base - 3900 mm, the outer length of the boiler - 6740 mm, the inner diameter of the boiler - 2200 mm, load capacity - 25 t [15] .
- Biaxial platform with metal sides. At different times on the platform in the form of exhibits were installed: field kitchen , ZIS-3 gun.

Infrastructure Elements
- Two-winged semaphore [9] . The signaling device used as an input signal at the station for the safe passage of trains. Installed at the Ferry station in 1938. It was dismantled in 2008 [16] .
