Biography
In 1966 he graduated from the Physics and Technology Department of Tomsk State University. V.V. Kuybyshev majoring in ballistics . In 1972 he defended his thesis on "The study of wave interactions and spallation in condensed matter." In 1987, G.I. Kanel defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Relaxation processes during shock compression of condensed substances." G.I. Kanel from 1967 to 1988 worked at the branch of the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (currently the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences ) in Chernogolovka , since 1988 he worked at the Joint Institute for High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences (OIVT RAS), now Deputy Director of JIHT RAS.
Scientific and teaching activities
The main area of scientific interest of G.I. Kanel is the mechanics of shock wave phenomena in condensed matter. He is the author of more than 200 scientific papers, 5 monographs. G.I. Kanel carries out teaching activities at Moscow State University and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology , a member of the editorial boards of scientific journals Izvestiya RAN. Solid State Mechanics ”and“ Thermophysics of High Temperatures ”, member of the Russian National Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Scientific Council for Combustion and Explosion of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission in Physics, Deputy Chairman of the Specialized Doctoral Council at the Joint Institute for High Temperatures , Member of Specialized Doctoral Councils at the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics and the Institute of High Pressure Physics RAS .
G.I. Kanel studied the elastoplastic, strength and kinetic properties of a wide range of materials at extreme strain rates, obtained the ratios necessary for calculating the effect of an explosion and high-speed impact. G.I.Kanel was the first to conduct research on the kinetics of energy release in shock and detonation waves in solid explosives, scientists discovered and studied fracture waves in shock-compressed brittle materials, fixed the approach to ultimate strength of solids at nanosecond load durations.
