Appearance
A ratchet is a small alien, somewhat reminiscent of a mixture of cats and squirrels , 5 feet (1.5 m ) tall and weighing 97.5 pounds (44 kg). It has green eyes and yellow fur all over the body. He wears a brown helmet and gloves, and he never takes them off, with the exception of Secret Agent Clank . In the original trilogy wears blue jeans and a chest belt, without shoes and top. In Ratchet: Deadlocked, Ratchet is fully dressed in a gladiatorial costume. In the Future lineup, Ratchet began to wear a shirt, pants, and jet boots. With the advancement of games, the hero changes physically.
Appearances
Ratchet is a member of the endangered Lombaks race, he was born on the Lombaks home planet - Fastun in the Polaris Galaxy, but was soon sent by his father Kaden to the planet Veldin to protect her from Emperor Percival Tachyon. Growing up on Veldin, Ratchet dreamed of traveling around worlds, galaxies and planets. To do this, he even assembled a makeshift ship.
Shortly after the completion of his ship, Ratchet met a refugee robot, Clank, who helped him fly away from Veldin and fulfill his dream. From this moment, new friends began to travel through the galaxies of Solana, Bogon and Polaris.
Character
The ratchet has a rather weak-willed character, and, as a rule, is not afraid to express its opinion. During the first part, Ratchet was quite quick-tempered, but later he learned to behave more wisely. At the same time, Ratchet can be shy and often very funny. He is also deeply attached to his friends, although at times this connection can be very intense.
Criticism
GameZone’s Louis Bedigian eulogized the game model and the character’s realistic animation, especially noting the quality implementation of Ratchet’s facial expressions and fur [1] . IGN's Douglas Perry spoke in favor of Ratchet's voice by Mikey Kelly, acknowledging that the actor had succeeded in conveying teenage timbre and intonation. [2]
GameSpy's Benjamin Turner was very critical of the character, noting both Ratchet’s unattractive appearance from an aesthetic point of view, his rude and immature manner of behavior, as well as the lack of moral qualities required by the hero, as opposed to the image of Clank [3] . The critic expressed regret that the names of the heroes in the name of the game are arranged in this order - in his opinion, the name “Clank and Ratchet” or even “Clank and another completely different character (and not Blinks)” would be more suitable [3] . Allgame's Gavin Frankl noted that with a character such as Ratchet, it’s quite difficult to establish an emotional connection, calling him “a typical teenager whose only attraction is the feeling of constant excitement and adventure” [4] .
