LGBT living conditions in the Czech Republic
Since the communist era, the Czech Republic has become much more liberal in terms of same-sex relationships since the Velvet Revolution and today it is one of the most LGBT-friendly countries in the European Union. There is an opinion that the growing tolerance is justified by the low level of religious beliefs in the country [10] [11] [12] .
In 2012, the Fundamental Rights Agency conducted a survey on discrimination among 93,000 LGBT people throughout the European Union. Compared with the EU average, the Czech Republic showed relatively positive results. 43% of Czech respondents indicated that none of their family knew about their sexual orientation. Only one out of five respondents speak openly about their sexual orientation to colleagues or classmates. 71% of respondents selectively open at work or at school. 52% of homosexual men and 30% of homosexual women avoid holding hands outside gay quarters for fear of being attacked, threatened or harassed [13] .
