Biography
Wei's parents were emigrants from Hong Kong [7] [8] [9] [10] . His father was a pastor who moved to the UK in the 1970s. Wei was born in Watford on January 19, 1977. He was educated at the Sir Frank Markham School, a public secondary school in Milton Keynes [11] , where some of the students scoffed at him because he was serious about learning [12] . Wei actively studied Putonghua at the London School of Economics , and has practical knowledge of Cantonese, French and German.
After graduating from Jesus College in Oxford, Wei worked at McKinsey & Company for three years, where he met Brett Wigdorts of the founder of Teach First in 2002. In early 2006, Wei founded the Shaftesbury Partnership [4] , an organization that seeks to emulate the great social reformers of the Victorian era, creating massive social reforms. The Shaftesbury Partnership is currently working on a number of projects on unemployment and healthcare. Through the Shaftesbury Partnership, Wei co-founded the independent charity The Challenge Network, [13] .
