Biography
Pietro's date of birth is not known exactly. It is believed that he was born in Genoa in 1330 , his father was Rolando Fregoso, his mother - Manfredina Fregoso. His brother Domenico was elected a doge in 1370 , and his nephew Giacomo became a doge in 1380 .
Pietro became a bachelor of law and joined the family business related to trade with the East. On the political stage, he acquired a number of positions, including the title of Podest in the city of Novi , and in 1373 he became admiral of the republic and was responsible for the conquest of Cyprus . For successes in the Aegean, he was awarded the palace in Genoa, subsequently managed by his brother.
Board
His appointment (or self-designation, as indicated in some historical texts) before the dog on July 15, 1393 , at the age of 63, occurred during the crisis of power, when the ruling Doge Antonio Montaldo resigned. His reign lasted only a few hours, until Clemente di Promontorio removed him from power. The very transition of the doge’s post to Promotorio was the result of a fragile political compromise, and the very next day the doge's place was taken by Francesco Giustiniano di Garibaldo .
Recent years
After this brief episode, Pietro continued his legal practice and political career, in particular as a member of the Council of Elders. He was the protagonist, along with Antonio Guarco, in the overthrow of the Doge Nicolo Zoagli in August 1394 .
On April 22, 1404, Pietro died in Genoa and was buried in the choir of the church of Castelletto di San Francesco.
From two marriages with Theodora Spinola (who died in 1370 ) and Benedetta Doria, he had many children; among them are two future Doges Tommaso di Campofregoso and Battista di Campofregoso (1380-1442) , Martino Fregoso, who became the ambassador and mayor of Savona, daughter of Pomellin, who was regent of Monaco on behalf of her granddaughter Claudine .
