Cafe
This bar belongs to the select group of bars in Buenos Aires, this group has as its main feature that it is the most representative bars in the city and is officially supported by the state programs of the city of Buenos Aires.
History
The cafe was opened on September 21, 1884 and later rebuilt in the 1920s, with stained glass windows and curved glass doors, as well as Italian marble floors. As for its flagship stained glass, as they would say in France, but in reality this was not. The planning and installation of stained glass windows was carried out by sketches in watercolor and ink by designers and carried out on Piedras street 1019, in 1928. These sketches, which were saved, were made in accordance with the recommendations of the architect who led the work. The person responsible for installing the stained glass was someone Antonio Estruc, who already had experience of similar work in the cafe " Tortoni " [1] . Grandmas May Square (civil association of human rights) sometimes uses a cafe to celebrate birthdays, their kidnapped grandchildren who disappeared during the military dictatorship in 1976-1983 [2] . In 1998, a renovation was announced on the website of the Legislative Assembly of the City of Buenos Aires. A few years before its restoration in 2001, the cafe was closed and half-abandoned.
Recovery
The restoration, which began in January 2001 and ended in June of the same year, was the replacement of worn-out parts, columns and ceiling. In some places there was a complete replacement with modern parts, at the direction of the architect who decided to build a different size, keeping the shape and original colors. The facade has been preserved in full and even the original interior details have been preserved. The restoration works were financed from the municipal budget.
