Content
History
The territory of the current commune was settled in the Neolithic era. Archaeologists discovered a fortification belonging to the pre-Roman era.
In 973, near the present Turtour, the Count of Provence, Guillaume I, defeated the Arabs-Saracen army, freeing the Mediterranean coast of Provence from their power. The current settlement Turtur appeared here in the XI century, around the fortified castle, preserved to this day.
Geographical position
The municipality is located 25 kilometers north-west of Draguignan , on the spurs of the Mor mountain massif, at an altitude of 625 meters above sea level, and 40 kilometers from the Verdomsky gorge. The location of the municipality of Tourtour on a high hill allows you to view all the seaside space of Provence from Frejus on the coast and to the mountains of Saint-Victoire in the west. Economy
In 2010, out of 361 people of working age (from 15 to 64 years old), 246 were economically active , 115 were inactive (an activity indicator of 68.1%, in 1999 - 70.5%). Of the 246 active able-bodied residents, 202 people (105 men and 97 women) worked, 44 were considered unemployed (17 men and 27 women). Among 115 able-bodied inactive citizens, 13 were pupils or students , 57 were retired , and another 45 were inactive for other reasons [8] [9] .
