General information
This is the area where the largest industrial enterprises of the North-West are located , but there are also very attractive places for recreation and hunting. A considerable part of the region is occupied by the Rybinsk Reservoir , which locals sometimes even call the sea, which significantly influenced the diversity of the wildlife of the surrounding places.
The hunting grounds of the region, despite the proximity of giant enterprises, are considered quite clean in an ecological sense and are rich in birds and animals. For example, the stock of moose in local taiga environs is one of the highest in the region.
The Volga-Baltic waterway passes through the territory of the district; in the south of it, the Darwin Reserve is located. The center of the district is the city of Cherepovets (a port on the Sheksna River, which is part of the Volga-Baltic waterway system ).
Culture
The only print media in the region is the newspaper Selskaya nov . The newspaper has been published since May 1, 1967. Prior to that, it was published under the name “Communist” (later renamed the newspaper “Rech”), but in 1967 the single edition was divided into the city (actually “Communist”) and district ( “Selskaya nov” ). Currently, the Selskaya Nov newspaper is published once a week on Thursdays. The circulation of the publication is more than 3200 copies.
