Economics
The main roles in the economy are logging and agriculture.
Transport
The road transport network is poorly developed. Automobile communication between the center of the district and Arkhangelsk is year-round, but in the spring and after prolonged rains the road is suitable only for the movement of off-road vehicles. Direct passage from Karpogor to the village of Pinega is possible only on a winter road . In summer, travel from Karpogor to Pinega is through Siya and Glubokoe, which increases the route by more than two times.
The Arkhangelsk-Karpogory railway line (owned by Russian Railways ), as well as the departmental Mezen railway (from Karpogor to the village of Shangas ) operate in the district. In the future, the Karpogory- Vending railway will be built (part of the Belkomur railway being designed). As of 2011, its construction is not underway.
Education, Culture, Health
In the district there are 22 schools, 8 primary schools, kindergartens and 22 kindergartens, 1 vocational school, 2 district hospitals, 3 medical outpatient clinics, 36 feldsher-obstetric centers. Organization of leisure activities in the district is carried out by 6 municipal budgetary cultural institutions with 68 structural divisions, including 27 libraries, 39 houses of culture (clubs, the House of Folk Arts), 1 club library and 1 library club. Local development is a way of including many people in the management of their small homeland. One example of local development can be considered territorial public self-government in the area, which began to be implemented in 2002. As of 2013, 30 CBT Bodies are operating in the district (2 at the registration stage of Voepol and Veegora). The TOS bodies operating in the region include 401 people. On the territory of the Pinezhsky district are located the Pinezhsky Museum of Local Lore and the Verkolsky Literary and Memorial Museum of F. Abramov .
Monasteries
Monasteries played an important role in the life of Pinezhsky land. In total, before the revolution of 1917, there were 3 active monasteries, 8 stone churches, 54 wooden churches, 63 chapels in Pinezhsky uyezd. In the 1920s they were all closed and many destroyed. Some were preserved as monuments of history and architecture [28] .
- St. John the Theological Sursky Monastery
- Artemievo-Verkolsky Monastery
- Krasnogorsk Bogoroditsky monastery
Natural Monuments
Natural complexes in the Pinezhsky region are mainly represented by karst landscapes formed under the influence of surface and groundwater.
- Caves
The largest known cave of Pinezhya, and indeed the entire European North of Russia, is the Kulogorsk-Troy system. The total length of its moves is over 16 kilometers. It consists of three caves: Kulogorsk-1, Kulogorsk-2 and Troy. The Leningrad cave on the banks of the Sotka River in the Pinezhsky Reserve, is one of the largest caves of the Pinega-Kuloysky karst region, both in terms of the length of passages and the total volume of underground cavities and the size of underground halls. Its length is 3.6 km, second only to the Constitutional Cave (5.7 km) [29] .
- Golubinsky Karst Massif
The most famous and visited natural monument of the Arkhangelsk region. Relic species of plants and animals have been preserved here. Here are many types of plants listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation: the slipper present, calypso bulbous, leafless chin, Traunshteiner palmate, Pinezhsky lobaria, pulmonary lobaria, Fremont's breeder, as well as animals: mnemosin butterfly, calf, osprey, eagle owl and gray magpie [29] .
