General Information

The men's single tournament brought together 7 representatives of the Top 20 of the world ranking (four of them were among the Top 10). The first sowing number was Stanislas Wawrinka (No. 4 in the world at that time). The Swiss in the first round unexpectedly lost to the local tennis player Tatsume Ito , who got into the main draw, having received a special invitation from the organizers. Last year's champion Juan Martin del Potro did not defend his title, as he was recovering from wrist surgery [1] . As a result, the winner of the tournament was the fourth seeding number of Kei Nishikori . The Japanese, with the support of his local audience in the final, beat the third number in this tournament, Canadian Milos Raonic . For Nishikori, this victory was already the second in Tokyo, before which he won the tournament in 2012. It is noteworthy that then he also defeated the Canadian tennis player in the final. Raonic, on the whole, played the third final in a row at this tournament and each time failed in it.

In the men's doubles, the first seeding number was world leaders Bob and Mike Bryan . The brothers unexpectedly lost at the start of the pair to Michal Psysenzhniy and Pierre-South Erber , who got to the tournament as Lucky-Losers . As a result, the Pole and the Frenchman did not limit themselves to this win and successfully played in other matches, winning the fourth in the semifinals and the second pair of the tournament in the final, having won the title of winners. For both tennis players, this success was a debut in the competition of the association.
