James Wong ( eng. James C. Wang , Chinese trad. 王 倬 , pinyin : Wáng Zhuō ; born November 18, 1936, Jiangsu , Republic of China ) - an American scientist of Chinese origin. The discoverer of topoisomerase [1] . He worked at Harvard University , Cambridge ( Massachusetts , USA ). Elected member of the Academy of Sciences of Taiwan (1982) and the United States .

Born in China. After the Sino-Japanese War in 1949, the family moved to Taiwan . He received a bachelor's degree in 1959 at the National University of Taiwan , where he worked as an assistant until 1960. He received a master's degree at the University of South Dakota in 1961 and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri (1964).
While working at the University of California, he studied DNA supercoiling. First discovered the enzyme (the original name - protein ω ), relaxing supercoiled DNA. The announcement of the discovery was published in 1971 [2] .
In 1977 he got a job at Harvard University. Author of numerous publications on topoisomerases, DNA topology, the use of topoisomerases in anti-cancer therapy. He retired in 2006.
