Velikanov, Dmitry Petrovich

Dmitry Petrovich Velikanov ( October 12 ( 25 ) 1908 - January 23, 1986 ) - Soviet scientist in the field of automobiles and transport; Doctor of Technical Sciences (1954), Professor (1958), Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1968), Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1968).

Biography

Born October 12 ( 25 in the new style) in 1908 in Odessa in the family of an employee.

In the 1920s, he worked as an assistant driver (auto mechanic) at the Krymkurso enterprise in the Crimea , then as a truck driver in Armenia. In 1931, Velikanov graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, having completed his diploma practice at the 1st State Automobile Plant in Moscow. From 1932 he worked at the Central Institute of Automobile Transport (since 1939 - Central Scientific Research Institute of Automobile Transport; from 1953 - All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Automobile Transport; now - Scientific Research Institute of Automobile Transport (NIIAT)), where in 1941—1946 was a director [2] . He was a member of the CPSU since 1945.

In 1949-1956, Dmitry Velikanov - employee of the automotive laboratory of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Academy of Sciences [3] . From 1956 until the end of his life, he was head of the sector of the Institute of Complex Transport Problems of the USSR Academy of Sciences (since 1960 under the USSR Council of Ministers ; since 1962 under the USSR State Planning Committee ).

D. P. Velikanov was the author of a number of works, among which the books were widely known:

  • "Automotive performance" (1962),
  • "Vehicle efficiency" (1969),
  • "Problems of motorization" (1976).

He lived in Moscow in Griboyedovskiy lane , 4 and on the street Dmitry Ulyanov, 4, bld. 2 (from 1960 to 1986). He died in 1986 in Moscow. He was buried at the Kuntsevo cemetery .
