St. Rufus came from a noble Roman family. According to legend, he was the consul-suffect in Rome and the chief of police in Ravenna . Having miraculously believed, Saint Rufus was ordained bishop of Capua for about 80 years , becoming the successor to Saint Synot here . He suffered a martyrdom, being spotted to death by rods on August 12, 83. His relics are in the temple of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
The successor of Rufus at the department is called Saint Quart .
