History
The first sedentary settlements in the Guglingen area appeared during the time of the Celts and the Roman Empire. In 2002, the sanctuary of Mithra was excavated on the lands of the city, which made it possible to assume that there once was a Roman settlement with an area of up to 10 hectares.
The Guglingen settlement was probably founded in the 4th – 5th centuries AD. e .. The first written mention of the city is in one of the letters of Frederick Barbaross , which was published in 1188. The settlement received the status of a city in 1295. At the beginning of the XIV century. the city became part of the land of Württemberg . During the Peasant War, the city was the center of an uprising in the Zabergoy Valley.
Several fires of 1850 severely destroyed the city. After the Second World War, Guglingen gradually developed into a commercial and industrial town.
