Biography
In 1913 - 1916 he began to study classical and Semitic languages at the universities of Halle , Berlin and Frankfurt .
In 1930 - 1935, he was a professor at the University of Dhaka .
In 1938 - 1962 - professor and director of the Oriental Seminar in Galle.
Since 1948 - Member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig .
Since 1961 - Corresponding Member of the Egyptian Academy of the Arabic Language in Cairo .
Scientific Heritage
The author of works on the history of the Arabic language and literature , the history of Arabic studies, as well as studies on the history of early Islam .
