Biography
Born in Osaka Prefecture . After the outbreak of war, he was drafted into the army. In 1944, Makino was transferred to a base in the vicinity of the city of Zamboanga , located on the island of Mindanao .
Experiments
According to Makino, in the period from December 1944 to February 1945, he took part in experiments conducted on people. About 30 people became victims of the experiments. Most of the experimental subjects were from the Moro people [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] , among them were women, children, as well as two Filipinos who were suspected of spying on the United States [6] . Among the experiments were amputations, dissection, and other types of experiments. In an interview with Kyodo, Makino talked about one of the experiments conducted on two Filipinos suspected of espionage. First, he put them to sleep, putting tissue soaked in ether on their mouths, after which he was ordered, after making an incision in the abdominal cavity, to examine their liver [7] . Makino believed that he was doing terrible things, but was forced to obey, as he feared that he would be killed in case of refusal [7] .
