CrowdRise

CrowdRise is a company and e-commerce platform of the same name that uses crowdsourcing to collect charitable donations. CrowdRise was founded in 2009 by American actor Edward Norton , his wife Shauna Robertson , and also two business brothers, the founders of the online store Moosejaw.com, Robert and Jeffrey Wolf. After selling their business, the brothers, inspired by an online fundraising campaign that Barack Obama used during the 2008 presidential election, helped Norton create his own interactive website [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6 ] .

The CrowdRise fundraising model is based on attracting the maximum number of people, using the gamification platform and the scoring system using award points. Through its social website, bonuses and fun contests CrowdRise gathers users who join the charity fundraising campaign. Users compete for prizes among themselves, getting points from other members for every dollar they earn and donate (among the prizes are laptops, e-book readers, game consoles and gift cards). One of the first CrowdRise partners in website promotion and fundraising was the New York Marathon [2] .

CrowdRise users (including celebrities) can create personalized fundraising pages. Through CrowdRise, Norton raised funds for reserves in Kenya and Tanzania , actor Seth Rogen raised money to fund research on Alzheimer's disease (Kick Alzheimer's In The Ass) and The $ 10 To End (Malaria) Project, musician Flee funded a music education program for young people, actress Kristen Bell raised funds to fund Invisible Children and The Art of Elysium; actress Elizabeth Banks supported the LA's Best After School Program and Partners In Health. Also through CrowdRise, volunteers who are going to personally participate in organization's projects in Africa communicate. The CrowdRise website is a self-sustaining enterprise that takes a percentage of donations, including a credit card transaction fee [2] [3] . In the field of social entrepreneurship, CrowdRise works closely with the Skoll Foundation [7] .
