Strumigenys shattucki (lat.) - a type of small earth ant from the subfamily Myrmicinae . Australia (Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory). Small ants (about 2 mm) with a heart-shaped head extended posteriorly. Mandibles short, triangular (with several teeth). The hairs on the scape of the antennae are not distant, but curved or inclined towards its top. The lateral edges of the occipital lobes of the head without protruding hairs. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and the postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, the pupae are bare (without cocoon). Specialized collembol hunters. The species is included in the species group Strumigenys anderseni along with several Australian species ( Strumigenys anderseni , S. peetersi ) [1] .
