The second Bulgarian kingdom during the reign of Kaloyan
- February 4 - marriage of the Latin emperor Henry I and Agnes, daughter of Boniface of Monferrata .
- March - Bulgarian king Kaloyan captures a number of regions in Thrace , besieges Adrianople , but in April retreats from the walls of the city.
- Spring - Khorezmshah Muhammad suppresses the popular uprising of Bukhara and annexes the city to its possessions.
