History
The musical premiered at the Playhouse Theater in Pasadena . Block rental went from October 24 to December 23, 2006 [1] , breaking all local box office records: “Act, sister” collected more than a million US dollars [2] . The production was directed by Peter Schneider, Marguerite Derricks worked on choreography, David Potts set design, Harry Lennon costumes [3] [4] .
Then the production moved to the Alliance Theater in Atlanta , where block rental was held from January 17 to February 2, 2007.
In the West End, the musical was staged by Stage Entertainment United Kingdom . The premiere took place at the Palladium Theater on June 2, 2009 . A month before this, the musical went through the preliminary stages. In this production, Peter Schneider also acted as a director, but another team worked on choreography, costumes, set design and lighting [5] . The rental “Act, sister!” Lasted until October 30, 2010. A year later, the musical went on a tour of the cities of Great Britain and Ireland [6] .
On April 20, 2011 (after 28 pre-screenings) the Broadway premiere of the musical took place at the Broadway Theater [7] . It was staged jointly by Stage Entertainment USA and The Shubert Organization . This production was directed by Jerry Sachs, with whom Douglas Bean rewrote the libretto [8] . The troupe included Patina Miller , who already played the role of Deloris in the West End, Victoria Clark ( Mother Superior ), Sarah Bolt ( sister Mary Patrick ), Mara Mindell ( sister Mary Robert ), Audrey Ninan ( sister Mary Lazarus ) and others . The stationary rental of the musical ended on October 26, 2012, having played 28 pre-shows and 561 performances.
The first North American tour opened in the fall of 2012 in Toronto [9] , and ended in the summer of 2014 in San Antonio . But already in the fall, the second round began, which will last until 2017 .
Stage Entertainment Germany staged the musical “Act, Sister!” In Hamburg (2010-2012), Stuttgart (2012-2013) and Oberhausen (2013 - present). Also, the productions were in Vienna, Austria (in German), Milan ( Italy ), Paris ( France ), Tokyo ( Japan ), The Hague ( Netherlands ), Montreal ( Canada ), Seoul ( South Korea ) and Barcelona ( Spain ). Musical rental is expected in Brazil , Australia , Mexico and several cities in the United States.
