Biography
Dmitry Yemelyanovich Smyshlyaev was born in 1790 in Solikamsk , in the family of Yemelyan Merkuryevich Smyshlyaev, a merchant of the 3rd guild, owner of leather and soap factories. When he was 9 years old, his father went bankrupt and died. Leaving the school, he went to work for the merchant Ivan Bratchikov, then as a scribe in the Solikamsk district court, then in the Verkhnemullinsky board of the estates of Princess Shakhovskaya . At the age of 12, having recovered with his relative Ya. P. Lyubimov to the Makaryev Fair, he went to work for the merchant Sharapov. A few years later he returned to his homeland and opened his own business. Then he moved to Perm , settling in his sister's house, A. E. Lyubimova, and started selling haberdashery goods, then opened a church candle factory and a rope factory. In 1811 he moved to his own wooden house, and in 1815 he bought a stone house on Torgovaya Street. In 1814 he married D. A. Lazareva, in 1823 he was widowed, and in 1824 married A. I. Kuznetsova. His son, Dmitri Dmitrievich Smyshlyaev , born in 1828 , became known as a public figure and local historian. [6]
In 1812-1814 , the famous statesman M.M. Speransky was in exile in Perm. He needed money, and Smyshlyaev lent him 5,000 rubles. Friendships have been established between them.
In 1817 - 1820 he served as the second burgomaster , and in 1823 - 1826 he served as mayor .
In the 1820s, he began to supply iron to Taganrog from the Demidovs Suksun plants. In 1828 he enrolled in the 1st guild.
Smyshlyaev built at his own expense the Church of All Saints , as well as the corps of the battalion barracks , in order to facilitate the “standing service” carried by the owners of Perm. He made a significant contribution to the restoration of Perm after the fire of 1842 : on his initiative, brick factories were built, which provided residents of the city with cheap bricks [6] .
Died May 6 (18), 1857 . For merits in the construction of the Novokladbishche Church of All Saints, he was buried in a crypt under the altar of the temple [5] [6] .
