Battle
On the morning of May 12, 1944 , a large detachment of Banderaites who crossed the Goryn River attacked the Strigany. At that time, the partisans were still sleeping, and a detachment of Ukrainian nationalists hoped to seize the partisan hospital and destroy the partisan command. A battle ensued during which Bandera were forced to retreat into the woods. 70 people were killed and 7 machine guns captured.
The next day, the NKVD units engaged in combing forests and the destruction of the hiding. Two companies of NKVD and Soviet Union submachine gunners arrived as reinforcements to the partisans, and the Guards division from Slavuta also arrived on the armored train. On May 13, as a result of the joint actions of the NKVD and the partisans (the latter blocked the road to the north), the remnants of the UPA detachment were destroyed: according to various sources, from 127 to 197 nationalists were killed in two days, and 28 people were captured. Of the 28 prisoners, seven were killed by partisans as especially dangerous criminals who collaborated with the police, the rest were sent to a collection point in Slavuta for interrogation.
Partisan accusations of massacre of prisoners
In 1989, at the height of Perestroika and glasnost, the stories of the partisan Vladimir Yatsenyuk, which described in detail the course of the battle with Ukrainian insurgents and the execution of especially dangerous criminals, were published in the information journal "Treads" and the regional Samizdat newspaper "Awakening". As Yatsenyuk said, he personally guaranteed the life of the surrendered Bandera, but some of them were shot by partisans. After that, in the newspaper of the Slavutsky district committee of the KPU Trudovik Polesye and the newspaper of the Khmelnitsky regional committee of the Komsomol Korchaginets, the author was persecuted, in response to which Yatsenyuk sued both newspapers and won the case [2] . There are no official documents recognizing the guilt of Anton Oduhi and the partisans subordinate to him in crimes against prisoners.
