Earl Atoll

Mormar (Earl) Atoll - an aristocratic title in medieval Scotland ( peer Scotland ). The title derives its name from the province of Atoll on the North Scottish Highlands (now the north of the county of Perthshire ). The Mormorism of the Atoll has been known since the Pictish period. In modern sources, two early kingdoms of the Picts are known - Fortriou and Angus . “De Situ Albanie” at the beginning of the 13th century reports that the Atoll was an ancient kingdom of the Picts.

Krinan Dankeldsky (d. 1045 ), abbot of the bishopric of Dankeld , Stuart of the Western Islands and Mormor of Atoll, was the ancestor of the Dankeld dynasty . Mormar Atoll Malmar was the son of King of Scotland Duncan I and the younger brother of King Malcolm III . Melmar was succeeded by the son of Matad (c. 1136–1153 / 1159), who is considered the father of Harald Madaddsson , the Gaelic jarl of Orkney and Mormair Caithness (c. 1134–1206). Foroellt, Countess of Atoll, married Norman knight David Hastings, and from his marriage had a daughter Ada (d. 1264 ), who became the wife of John de Stratbog, a Norman-Gaelic native of Fife. Stratbogs ruled the County of Atoll until the First War of Independence of Scotland . Then the Atoll passed into the possession of John Campbell, then William Douglas, and after them the county was ruled by members of the Stuart dynasty.
