History
After the launch and development of two non-profit organizations (Public Allies and Women's Information Network), Vanessa Kirsch and her husband Alan Hazey traveled to more than twenty countries around the world, talking with other social entrepreneurs. Upon her return, Kirsch realized that the nonprofit sector lacked free capital and decided to establish a fund that would facilitate the access of social startups to financial resources. New Profit Inc. was organized by Vanessa Kirsch in 1998. With the support of the international consulting company Monitor Group (now known as Monitor Deloitte ), Kirsch and her partners helped launch more than 30 social projects and companies. In April 2013, New Profit Inc. moved from Cambridge to Boston [7] [8] [9] .
Projects
In 1999, New Profit Inc. began to advise and support the first social companies - Jumpstart, Citizen Schools and Working Today (today - Freelancers Union) [10] . New Profit supports social entrepreneurs in four main areas: economic empowerment and capacity building, education, child development, and healthcare. Such entrepreneurs are provided with grants, consultations, legal assistance, trainings and strategic planning.
New Profit founded the Pathways Fund, which, through grants and social entrepreneurs in the field of education, helps teenagers graduate from high school, go to college and find a good job [11] . New Profit also established an Action Tank, through which it created the America Forward initiative (a coalition of nearly 50 non-profit organizations that creates infrastructure for social entrepreneurs and government) [12] [13] and holds the annual Gathering of Leaders [14] event.
