Michal Grameno

Michal Grameno ( Alb. Mihal Grameno ; January 13, 1871 , Korca - February 5, 1931 , Korca ) is an Albanian writer and activist in the struggle for independence.

He came from a family of merchants, Orthodox . In his youth, he emigrated for economic reasons to Romania , where he became involved in the Albanian national movement . In 1889 , he was elected secretary of the patriotic society Drita , operating in Bucharest . During this time he published his first poems.

Upon returning to Albania in 1907 , he joined Churchis Topulli , with whom he fought against the Turks . In 1908 , he took part in the Battle of Mashkullore.

In addition to armed activities, Grameno was engaged in educational activities in villages in the south of Albania. In 1908 he took part in the congress in Monastir , where the standard alphabet of the Albanian language was installed. In 1909 he founded the Orthodox League in Korce ( Lidhja Ortodokse ). In 1912 , he was one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence .

After the division of the Albanian lands during the First World War , he emigrated to the United States . At that time, he became involved in the organization of Vatra , which unites Albanians living in the United States, and edited the weekly Koha (Time). In 1919 , the Paris Peace Conference participated in the delegation of the Albanian diaspora. In 1921 he returned to Albania, where he began writing articles in which he demanded the democratization of the Albanian state. After the fall of the Fana Noli government in 1924 , he withdrew from social activities. In 1925 , he published memories of the battles with the Turks. one of the founders of the Albanian novels. Translated into Albanian some articles of V. I. Lenin .
