Scientific activity

In the works of M.O. Shakhov, the religious and philosophical content of the Old Believer worldview is investigated. Carrying out the analysis of the texts, he made an attempt to show the Old Believers a natural response of the traditional Orthodox worldview to the one carried out in the 17th century. Nikon's reform, which was perceived as a threat of distorting the underlying foundations of this worldview. M.O. Shakhov proves the high level of the works of Old Believer book publishing, where he finds a developed religious and philosophical thought, which reflects an integral and logically connected system of views with a developed set of concepts. In addition, he shows the philosophical and worldview opposition in the doctrines of Protestantism and the Old Believers. He studied the development of Old Believer thinkers issues of relationship in the process of cognition of the social roles of personality and authority, as well as their ideas about the truth and its criteria. He believes that these topics were very important for Old Believer thought, since the split led to a deep worldview decline and raised the question of the boundaries of personality obedience to the authority of the church hierarchy. M.O. Shakhov also paid special attention to the study of the historiosophical and social views of the Old Believers, along with questions of his relationship with the modern state and society. [one]

M.O. Shakhov investigated the methods used by the Old Believers to interpret and impartially study religious texts. This was achieved thanks to a comprehensive study of the relations of the Old Believer worldview with ontological and epistemological representations of the traditional Byzantine-Russian Orthodox doctrine. Thus, M.O. Shakhov, revising the question of the relationship between the roles of historical, national features and religious and philosophical teachings, substantiates a new understanding of the essence of the Old Believers and the split. He concludes that, due to the supranational nature of religious beliefs, which were predominantly invariant in Orthodox Christian teaching, were of decisive importance. [one]
