Biography
Anderson received a bachelor's degree in motion picture and American literature from the University of New Mexico . After that, he received a master's degree in motion picture production at the University of California at Los Angeles .
The first big success came to Anderson in 1988, when the work "Ray's heterosexual male dance club" , the producer of which he was, won the Academy Award in the nomination " Best Fiction Short Film ." Anderson’s short film Hearts of Stone (1989) was nominated for the Golden Hugo at the International Film Festival in Chicago and was shown at the Sundance Film Festival , where he attracted Oliver Stone's attention. Subsequently, they collaborated on working on their debut for Anderson as a screenwriter and director of the film Against the Current , which was widely accepted by critics. In particular, the magazine New Yorker called the film one of the best independent films of the year. Anderson died of throat cancer on May 1, 2015 in Denver , Colorado , at the age of 67 [1] . His wife, Mary Lo Weir, a costume designer, with whom he lived for more than thirty years, survived him.
