1st regiment of foot rangers of the Imperial Guard

The 1st regiment of foot rangers of the Imperial Guard ( fr. 1er régiment de chasseurs à pied de la Garde impériale ) is an elite unit formed by Napoleon immediately after coming to power from parts of the walking guides ( fr. Guides à pied de l'armée ), former with him in the egyptian campaign . The regiment was one of the key elements of the Imperial Guard , and along with the foot grenadiers , equestrian grenadiers and horse rangers, it was part of the Old Guard . It was disbanded immediately after the second restoration of the Bourbons .

Candidate conditions

  1. Participation in at least three campaigns (since 1802 - in 4 campaigns).
  2. Have "rewards that are given to the brave for distinguishing themselves in battle or to receive battle wounds."
  3. Consist of active military service.
  4. Have a height of at least 170 cm.
  5. Be distinguished by excellent behavior throughout the previous service.


The imperial decree of July 29, 1804 confirmed these requirements in many respects, but somewhat softened the points related to the physical data of candidates: from now on, joining ranks of huntsmen had to be 167 cm tall. have only two military campaigns behind you.
