Biography
Born April 22, 1853 in Moscow in a merchant family.
In the 1860s he studied at the Moscow private boarding school of E. Kh. Repman. He became one of the owners of the βAssociation of Leather and Cloth Manufactories A. Bakhrushin Sonsβ.
He began to collect a collection of works of art in 1872. At the beginning of the 20th century , his collection included objects of Russian everyday life, church antiquities, porcelain, earthenware and bronze ware, paintings by V. A. Tropinin , O. A. Kiprensky , V. K. Shebuyev , G. I. Ugryumov and others artists, a collection of popular prints and other exhibits. His collection of books (about 30 thousand volumes), which contained rare copies, was very famous. In 1904, a meeting under the will of Alexei Petrovich entered the Historical Museum , where two halls of his name were created. In 1911-1912, at the expense of the widow of the collector - A. S. Bakhrushina, a complete description of Bakhrushin's book collection was published - "The Catalog of Alexei Petrovich Bakhrushin's Books." Issue 1-3. M., 1911-1912). In the 1930s, the library was transferred to the newly created State Public Historical Library.

In Moscow A.P. Bakhrushin lived in his own house on Kozhevnicheskaya embankment, 1; later - in a mansion on the street. Vorontsovo Field, 6, where on the second and third floors housed his collection.
He died on June 25, 1904 in Moscow. He was buried in the cemetery of the Simonov Monastery . A.P. Bakhrushin was a member of the Society of lovers of ancient writing, the Society of lovers of Russian historical education, the Russian society of book signs, the Moscow bibliographic circle, the Vladimir and Simbirsk scholarly archival commissions.
