Biography

In 1828, Shtos graduated from the episcopal gymnasium in Zagreb ) [1] . Then he graduated from a theology course. For a while, Shtos worked as secretary of the Zagreb bishop. Since 1842, Shtos served as a priest in the parish of Pokupsko , which was part of the "Noble community of Turopole . "

Stos is well known among Croatian patriots as the author of the famous elegy Kip domovine vu početku leta 1831 , published in the Danica magazine by Ludevita Gaya . In it, he clearly formulated his concern about foreign oppression and the denationalization of ordinary people ( vre i svoj jezik zabit Horvati hote ter drugi narod postati ). Shtos pessimistically looked at contemporary political and social movements, calling his country trapped in the darkness of the dungeon ( srce od plača ne mrem zdržati ).

In addition to literature, Shtos also studied music, played a good harp, published in 1858 Kitice srkvenih pjesama s napjevima . He is the author of the song "Poziv u kolo ilirsko".

In 1862, Shtos was appointed canon of Zagreb, but died before formally taking office.
