The 12th European Men's Handball Championship was held in Poland from January 15 to January 31, 2016 .

The tournament is qualifying for the 2017 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics . Three best teams get directly to the championship (except for France, already qualified there as the current world champion). The remaining twelve, after the competition, will play butt matches with teams that did not make it to the European Championship. The European champion (or the finalist, if France already qualified for the Olympics wins) will go to the Olympics directly, and the two best teams from the rest will receive trips to the final intercontinental qualification.

Elections venue

In addition to Poland , Croatia and Norway claimed to hold the tournament. But at the EHF Congress, held on June 23, 2012 in Monaco , Poland received 58% of the vote.
