The population of Argentina is 45 million people [1] . Argentines are the third largest national group in South America and the fourth in Latin America. Only Brazilians (203 million), Mexicans (108 million) and Colombians (52 million) are ahead of them. Modern Argentines are the descendants of Europeans , Indians and Africans, who at different times arrived in the country. Mestizos predominate in most peripheral regions of the country, although according to the latest census of 2001, 97% of the population ranked themselves as white and only 2% of the population indicated an Indian origin.
