Biography

Vasily Ivanovich Babernov was born on February 6, 1909 in the village of Grivna (now the Podolsky District of the Moscow Region ). He graduated from high school and rabfak , after which he worked at the Moscow plant "Geophysics". In August 1934, Babernov was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1936, he graduated from the Yeisk Naval Aviation School and served in command positions in the Air Force of the USSR [1] .

He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war, being the commander of the aviation unit of the 5th squadron of the 5th Fighter Aviation Regiment. Awarded the Order of the Red Banner [2] .

At the beginning of World War II was the deputy commander of the squadron of the 71st Fighter Aviation Regiment. Awarded the second Order of the Red Banner [3] . In December 1941, he was wounded and after treatment he was sent to study at the Naval Academy. In 1943 he graduated from the Naval Academy and returned to the front, commanded the 78th Fighter Aviation Regiment.

After the war, he continued to command the regiment. From November 1946 to April 1947, he served as Commander of the 6th Fighter Aviation Division. From April 1947 to November 1949 he commanded the 91st Fighter Division of the Air Force of the Northern Fleet . In 1951, Babernov graduated from the Air Force Academy , a year later he transferred to teaching at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR [1] . In 1958, Babernov was given the military rank of major general of aviation. In 1960 he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Moscow . He died on April 4, 1974 , buried at the Vvedensky cemetery of Moscow [1] .

He was awarded four orders of the Red Banner , the Order of Ushakov of the 2nd degree and the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
