DescriptionAppearance
The bird is small in size with a long tail, the total length is 29–32 cm, of which 20–23 cm falls on the tail. The head, neck, wings and tail are gray. The abdomen is creamy white. Paws are red [3] .
Voice
Short and sharp screams [3] .
ReproductionThe breeding season lasts all year. The peak of egg laying occurs in September – December [3] .
NutritionIt feeds exclusively on plant foods. The basis of the diet is fruits and berries, also the bird eats leaves, buds and flowers and drinks nectar [3] .
Distribution and habitatThe white-backed mouse bird is widespread in South Africa . It lives in shrubbery. Leads mainly a sedentary lifestyle.
Nominal subspecies - C. c. colius , lives in the vast territory of South Africa , and the subspecies C. c. damarensis - in Namibia and southern Botswana [3] .
