The MyNetworkTV network was founded in January 2006, when CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. decided to close the unprofitable The WB and UPN , by combining them into The CW [2] . As a result of the closure of the two networks, half of the local stations were left without a national television network, thanks to which, led by the Fox Television Station (which owns the largest stations in New Jersey, Los Angeles and Chicago), they united in MyNetworkTV [3] .

In the early days of its existence, MyNetworkTV tried unsuccessfully to compete with The CW for fifth place after the big four . In its debut season, the channel decided to fight for an English-speaking audience aged 18–49, launching inexpensive telenovelas (a format of soap operas rarely used on American television), broadcasting them not once, but five times a week. The budgets of these shows were at $ 200,000- $ 500,000 compared with $ 2- $ 3 million from other prime-time dramas [4] . The budgets were actually lower than that of daily soap operas [5] . The first projects of the channel were “Desire” and “Fashion House”, which were broadcast for thirteen weeks and 65 episodes, from September to December. Both shows were far from successful, attracting less than a million viewers and losing audience week after week [6] . On the day following telenovelas, “Unfair cruel games” and “Watch me” started in December and were even less successful, and the channel's ratings meanwhile fell by as much as 90 percent since its launch [7] . March 1, 2007, the channel announced the cessation of the production of telenovelas [8] . The last two ended in July 2007 and were replaced by a reality show, also unsuccessful [9] .

On February 9, 2009, the Fox Entertainment Group announced the transfer of MyNetworkTV from a television network to a syndication service, similar to Ion Television [10] . This step helped MyNetworkTV to rise in the ratings, being the number six network in the 2011/12 season, mainly due to the syndicated replays " Law and Order: Special Corps " and " Law and Order: Malicious Intent " [11] .
