Biography
Hristo Danov was born in the city of Klisura, studied there at a church school , then continued his education at the Savva Radulov’s classroom school in Panagyurishte , after which he studied in Koprivshtitsa with Nayden Gerov and Joakim Gruev.
In 1849, Danov became an assistant teacher in Plovdiv, then founded a Sunday school in Strelcha . Since 1854 he taught at the famous school of Nayden Gerov, founded a classroom school in his native Klisur.
In 1857, together with a teacher, Yacho Truvchev founded a partnership, which later became a publishing house. In 1869-1876, Danova Publishing House published the journal “Letostruy or Home Calendar”. Since 1878 - the first all-Bulgarian magazine "Maritsa". The first wall-mounted geographical maps in the country were published at the publishing house [2] .
In 1882, Danov was elected as the people's representative in the regional assembly of the autonomous Eastern Rumelia .
From November 1896 to April 1899, Hristo Danov was a kmet (mayor) of Plovdiv [3] . As a kmeta, Danov refused wages. Under his management, the first master plan of Plovdiv (architect Joseph Schniter ) was developed.
Hristo Danov died on December 11, 1911, was buried in the Church of the Light Mother of God [4] .
