Biography

Telegin began as a teacher of physical education in a rural school [4] .

Graduate of the Smolensk State Institute of Physical Culture [4] .

In the late fifties - early sixties, many young athletics specialists were invited to Zaporozhye. Among them was Vasily Telegin [5] . In Zaporozhye, Telegin came from Essentuki and immediately got into the largest Metallurg sports club in the city [2] [5] .

Vasily was engaged in sprinting, jumping in length and with a pole. With a height of 172 cm, he jumped at that time to a decent height of 190 cm [5] .

In 1962, at the age of 26, he ends his career as an active athlete and leaves Metallurg IC, having been appointed a track and field coach to the physical education team of Zaporizhzhya Transformer Plant [5] . Telegin’s disposal was the Avangard stadium, which was in poor condition (it has not been reconstructed since 1936), the hall of the Energetikov recreation center (and a few years later, Transformer sports club) [2] [5] . At the stadium "Vanguard" there were tracks with a burning coating, and it was poorly suited for training athletes. The lack of a training base was compensated by Telegin inexhaustibility of his inventions for the most unexpected exercises in unexpected places. As a trainer, Telegin was a man with a difficult and unpredictable character, but he enjoyed unquestioned authority. His wards were distinguished by excellent physical fitness [6] . At the beginning of work, Telegin at the factory did not require first places in big sports. Since the administration of the plant (in particular, the general director Viktor Andreevich Ivanov ) took care of the recreation areas for workers, including athletes, a sports camp Zakalka was built not far from the enterprise on the island of Khortytsya . The construction work of the sports camp was attended by coaches, athletes, including Telegin [5] .

Telegin received a room from the factory in a communal apartment, but later the Telegin was given his own apartment [2] [5] .

Telegin trained in many types of athletics. He did not take up only the hammer and the stayer distances. His vocation was high jump [5] . Telegin was distinguished from other trainers by the way he carefully selects newcomers to his groups, paying particular attention to their anthropometric data [4] . Telegin was a good psychologist, he knew how to find an individual approach, taught his wards to analyze their mistakes [7] .

In addition to the world champion Vladimir Yashchenko , among the pupils of Telegin are known:

  • Alexander Letnikov [5]
  • Vladimir Letnikov [8]
  • Vladimir Artamonov [9]
  • Pavel Lobanov [9]
  • Alexander Sivak [8]
  • Nikolay Gill [8]
  • Alexey Polukhin [8]
  • Mikhail Mishin [10]
  • Igor Timokhin [11]
  • Victoria Rybalko [12] .

Vasily Telegin died on May 1, 2005, at the age of 69, and was buried in Zaporozhye Peschanoye Cemetery [3] .

Personal life

Telegin was married. His sons are Alexander and Alexey [5] .
