HLL Lifecare (formerly Hindustan Latex Limited) is an Indian manufacturer of healthcare products, including male and female condoms , hormonal contraception (birth control pills), pregnancy tests , surgical needles and threads, blood transfusion bags, and mobile diagnostic laboratories. Headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram , Kerala , the majority stake is held by the Government of India. As of 2007, HLL Lifecare was the largest condom manufacturer in the world (HLL Lifecare capacity reached 1 billion condoms per year) [1] [2] [3] .

HLL Lifecare pays great attention to social work and charity: by order of the government, the company conducts extensive explanatory work among the population in the areas of family planning, promoting safe sex and reducing unplanned pregnancies, distributes free condoms and birth control pills to the poor, expands the network of diagnostic centers for the poor, helps leading medical colleges of the country [1] [4] .
In 2005, HLL Lifecare, together with the American Acumen Foundation, founded a network of budget- friendly but high-quality hospitals LifeSpring Hospitals , which soon took a leading position in the market for medical services in Hyderabad [5] [6] [7] . In 2014, HLL Lifecare acquired a majority stake in Goa Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals ( Goa ) [8] .
HLL Lifecare controls the Vaccine and Medical Equipment Park in Chengalpattu ( Kanchipuram County), the hormonal drug factory in Belgaum , pharmaceutical factories in Perurkad and Akkulam ( Thiruvananthapuram ), Perumbavur and Kakkanada ( Ernakulam County), Manesar ( Gurgaon County) and Indore , and works closely with the Rajiv Gandhi Biotechnology Center in Thiruvananthapuram . HLL exports its products to more than 70 countries around the world [1] [9] . The main competitors of HLL Lifecare in the Indian condom market are the British company Reckitt Benckiser (brand Durex ), the Australian company Ansell (brand KamaSutra), the Indian companies TTK Healthcare and Mankind Pharma. Despite fierce competition, HLL Lifecare holds about 65% of the contraceptive market in rural and suburban India [10] [5] .
