486th Fighter Aviation Regiment

The 486th fighter aviation orders of the Suvorov and Bogdan Khmelnytsky Regiment ( 486th IAP ) is a military unit of the Air Force of the Red Army , which took part in the hostilities of the Great Patriotic War .

The 486th Fighter Aviation Regiment was formed by renaming the 12th Fighter Aviation Regiment on December 26, 1941 by order of the commander of the 51st Army [1]

Disbandment of the Regiment

The 486th fighter aviation orders of the Suvorov and Bogdan Khmelnitsky regiment was disbanded on September 7, 1960, together with the 279th Iad in the 57th VA PrikVO [2] [3] [4]

  • The 486th fighter aviation regiment was decreed by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 4, 1945 for exemplary performance of command missions in battles with the German invaders during the capture of the cities of Korneiburg, Floridsdorf and the courage shown in this, was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky II degree.

  •   Gusarov Nikolai Mikhailovich , major, navigator of the 486th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 279th Fighter Aviation Division of the 6th Fighter Aviation Corps of the 16th Air Army By the Decree of the Supreme Council of the USSR on February 4, 1944 was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Gold Star No. 3235.
  •   Dmitry Medvedev , Major, commander of the 486th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 279th Fighter Aviation Division of the 5th Air Army By the Decree of the Supreme Council of the USSR on May 15, 1946, was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Gold Star No. 7522.
   

The future cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Komarov , served in the regiment in 1952-1954.
