August Friedrich is the seventh son of Duke Frederick III of Holstein-Gottorp and Maria Elizabeth of Saxony . In 1656 he was appointed coadjutor of brother Christian Albrecht with the right to inherit. In the years 1662-1664 he traveled to Europe and traveled to England, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. From 1666 until his death in 1705 he was prince-bishop of Lübeck . He moved his residence to Eitin Castle . Member of the Fruitful Society . In 1676, August Friedrich married in Halle Christine , daughter of the Duke Augustus of Saxe-Weissenfelsky . He was buried with his wife in Lubeck Cathedral .
